The Mother & Daughter Bond

I haven't posted in a while. I guess after 5 years of this, I feel as if I've discussed most everything. But with the death of the famous comedian Joan Rivers, I started to think about how strong the bond is between a mother and daughter.
At this point in my life, I consider my mother my best friend.  Unless you didn't have a good mother, most daughters wouldn't be able to find a better friend than their mother. Mother's have that unconditional love that you don't always find with your other friends. They will take the time to listen to you when you have problems even when you complain too much and every one else is tired of hearing about it. They can relate to you because frankly who knows you better than your mother?

I didn't realize how important my mom was when I was a child or even a teenager. We had a good relationship , I just didn't value it as much as I should have.

I first felt that strong bond and admiration for her when I had my first child. Blessed by being Mom's only daughter, she was a little excited about the opportunity to come and help out when the baby was born. I lived in Georgia and she lived in Texas. She came 2 weeks early just in case. Then my son came 2 weeks late. Then she hung around for 2 weeks more. In other words, she just left my dad, her friends, church and other responsibilities, and spent 6 weeks in a very small duplex on an Army base, sleeping on the couch. Do you have any friends who would do that?

She taught me a lot of interesting things during that time. How to make some wonderful meals at a very low cost. How to wrap and bathe a newborn baby. How to breast feed properly. When my baby cried, she got up in the night and brought him to me so I could feed him and then got up again 15 minutes later and put him back to bed. You got any friends that would care for you like that?
After my 2nd son was born, I got a divorce. She grieved with me, comforted me, put up with my depression and stress of being a single mom with two babies without much complaining. She baby sat my two kids while I worked  until I could get on my feet again. I appreciated this greatly, but wasn't always so pleasant because when you are in that kind of predicament, you sorta lose your awareness of your parent's kindness and become self absorbed. She put up with that too.

2 weeks before my 3rd son was born, she came because I had the chicken pox and because I had chicken pox,  she got shingles.

It's not all about having babies though. She came for thanksgiving, a long 8 hour drive with a large pan of my  favorite southern stuffing all wrapped up in aluminum foil because she assumed I needed help. She was always there for any big event in my life or my kid's life, if she felt I needed or wanted her there.

A Mother's love is her daughter's greatest treasure. A daughter's happiness is a mother's deepest desire.

Every once in a while, someone asks me why I go and visit mom everyday? Some even say it's really not that good for her and she would get along better with weekly visits. There should be no judging of how other daughters take care of their mothers. They should go through this time in their life as they feel is best for their mother. .

My answer? " It's a blessing! She's my best friend! And I owe her one or two."
